06 Oct. 2026 Meeting Speaker: Diana Stelin Oct. 06, 2026 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Diana Stelin is an award-winning artist, educator, author, and TEDx speaker whose work explores the role creativity plays in resilience, connection, and well-being. Originally from Moldova, Diana discovered art as a teenager navigating immigration and cultural transition, an experience that shaped her lifelong commitment to helping others access their own creativity. She is the founder of Plein-Air Art Academy and Diana Stelin Gallery in Brookline, where she develops arts programming for children, teens, and adults throughout Greater Boston. Her SPARK method, first introduced through her TEDx talk on creativity and burnout, has also informed programs for organizations including Google, AstraZeneca, and Ropes & Gray. As a professional artist, Diana has exhibited internationally, including projects connected with the Venice Biennale. She will present a talk titled: “Creativity as an Antidote to Burnout: How We Reconnect With Ourselves and Each Other.”

24 Oct. 2026 Helpsy: Community Used Items Collection Oct. 24, 2026 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. SECOND LAST HELPSY OF 2026 What is Helpsy? As a certified B Corp and Public Benefit Corporation, Helpsy's mission is to keep clothing out of the trash, provide honorable work, and earn growing profits. Helpsy collects, sorts, and trades secondhand clothes and shoes. In 2024 alone, the Helpsy team collected over 32 million pounds of clothes, shoes, and other items. The impact of their efforts speaks volumes: Counting only the clothes our customers sell at retail, we saved over 4 billion gallons of water and over 600 million pounds of CO2 emissions from new clothing creation. Paid more than $500,000 to charities and municipalities for bin placements, clothing drives, purchased materials, and as donations. Saved municipalities more than $1.6 million in waste disposal tipping fees. What can be collected? Almost anything but check here for approved items. TWO MORE DATES! 10/24 11/21

03 Nov. 2026 Speaker: Lionel Porter Nov. 03, 2026 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Lionel Porter received his undergraduate degree in English and journalism from Indiana State University. He was a contributor to the school's literary magazine,The Pied Pipings in which he reviewed Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter. As a graduate student, he received a fellowship to attend The University of Connecticut where he received a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology. He has taught and lectured on African-American writers at various colleges and universities in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Porter is also a student of African-American history and is an admirer of the example and vision of Frederick Douglass. For several years, Lionel Porter served as Legal Redress Chair of the South Middlesex Branch of the NAACP in Framingham,Massachusetts. While there, he was successful in securing substantial damage awards for grievants who had experienced discriminatory treatment.He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Law. He also received a government appointment to the Connecticut State Board of Mediation and Arbitration as its public member and seminar training in Commercial Arbitration with the American Arbitration Association. Lionel will be speaking about early American slavery.

17 Nov. 2026 Meeting Speaker: Darlene Flores Nov. 17, 2026 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Dr. Darlene Flores is a chiropractor, community leader, and founder of Mothers Path to Ancestors (HUAH), a nonprofit dedicated to ancestral healing and cultural restoration. Based in Massachusetts, she also leads the Indigenous Peoples Day celebration in Newton and operates Karaya Wellness Clinic, where she integrates holistic care with community empowerment. Her work uplifts Indigenous voices through ceremony, health, and tradition.

01 Dec. 2026 Meeting Speaker: Howie Sholkin Dec. 01, 2026 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. Howard Sholkin has several decades of marketing communication and media experience. Sholkin formerly served as adjunct faculty at Boston University and Lasell University, teaching communication and media. His corporate communications experience included International Data Group, Digital Equipment Corporation, and a subsidiary of Bell Atlantic. Following graduation from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University, Sholkin was a news producer at WCVB-TV, Boston. A lifelong Newton resident, he serves on the boards of Newton Community Pride, Boston Entrepreneurs Network (ENET), and Temple Shalom of Newton.
