Newton Rotary Club--August 14

President Justin Sallaway called the meeting to order.  Paul Stone led us in the pledge of Allegiance. Dennis Prefontaine shared an invocation. Susan McInerney challenged us in song with The Star Spangled Banner.  Paul, was so inspired by our national anthem that he continued with verse 2.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
There was a board meeting today.  Governor Rich Dietz will be here for the Sept 18th meeting. Sept. 11 meeting is CANCELLED.  Lake Winnepesaukee "meeting" will be weekend of September 15.  More details will be available soon on the Website. There was a discussion about how to handle the Emergency Fund.  Interest of that fund goes to emergencies usually around the amount of $500.  However, interest rates have been low the past few years, so we are making less than half that amount in interest income. However, we still want to be able to give out a significant amount for emergencies, so do we dip into the corpus and assume interest rates will rebound in the future, or do we fundraise? The topic was tabled, but will be revisited at a future Board Meeting.

We are still on target for the Newton's Got Talent Show for November 17. Tom Keery will reconvene the committee after Labor Day.
